Urban Garden Program
TUGI's mission is to inspire and empower youth to achieve urban sustainability though a gardening-based educational program. In order to achieve these goals, we have designed a year-long program that engages youth in environmental education as well as urban gardening in both the fall and the spring time.
We begin by working with each school in the late summer to adapt the workshop and curriculum to fit the needs of each individual school before the school year starts. During this time, we will work on finding the right class to host the workshop as well as identifying a teacher or other staff member that will serve as the garden coordinator for the year.
From there, we will host one workshop in the early fall and one workshop in early spring. We will provide all of the necessary materials for the workshop and the container gardens. Container gardening is an easy, transportable urban gardening method that is a great space saver and has almost an equal yield compared to a traditional garden. Each workshop typically takes around 45 minutes to one hour. All workshops will contain an educational component as well as a hands-on gardening component.
In the end, we believe that the only way that we can truly create a greener, better, and safer planet is by allowing youth to learn about the problems that we are currently facing today and designing their own solutions to solve them. Join TUGI today and help us to achieve these goals.
